On Thursday 24 September 2026, young people in Naoero came together for a day of learning, sharing ideas and building new connections.
In celebration of National Youth Day and Sir Hammer DeRoburt Day, PAYA Naoero and the Naoero Chamber of Commerce joined forces to deliver a Youth Leadership and Entrepreneurship Workshop at the Civic Conference Room in Aiwo District.
Co-sponsored by both organisations, the workshop brought young people together for interactive discussions and group activities focused on developing practical leadership and entrepreneurship skills.
The event was one of the first activities delivered by PAYA Naoero following the official opening of our first local branch on 19 August 2026, led by Chairperson Eirububwin Tréannah Dabwido and a local committee of young dei-Naoero.
It was an important early step in turning the branch's vision into action: creating opportunities for young people in Naoero to learn, connect and lead.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs
The morning sessions were led by Angelina Waqa, who introduced participants to entrepreneurship and the practical steps involved in starting a business in Naoero.
Through discussions on entrepreneurial thinking and business development, young people were encouraged to explore their ideas, recognise opportunities and consider how they could contribute to their local economy.
Discovering Their Leadership Potential
In the afternoon, Ankemwi Garoa and Isaiah Halstead facilitated leadership activities exploring personal goals, leadership styles and what it means to be a leader.
Participants also took part in a Youth Group Challenge, providing an opportunity to work together and put their learning into practice.
A yoga session led by the Sports Department highlighted the importance of self-care and wellbeing, while the day concluded with reflection activities.
Creating Opportunities for Young People
The workshop also provided an opportunity to introduce the Naoero Chamber of Commerce Youth Committee, a strategic priority under the Private Sector Roadmap.
The initiative aims to encourage greater youth participation in the private sector and create opportunities for young people interested in business and entrepreneurship.
Several participants expressed interest in joining the committee, marking an encouraging first step towards its establishment.
Building on the Launch of PAYA Naoero
Just over a month earlier, on 19 August 2026, PAYA officially opened its first local branch at the Menen Hotel.
Led by Chairperson Eirububwin Tréannah Dabwido and a local committee, PAYA Naoero was established to create opportunities for young people to develop their skills, strengthen their communities and connect with other young leaders across the Pacific.
The workshop demonstrated how this vision is beginning to take shape through local partnerships and practical activities.
Celebrating Naoero's Young People
Held in celebration of National Youth Day and Sir Hammer DeRoburt Day, the workshop recognised the important role young people play in shaping Naoero's future while honouring the legacy of the country's founding father.
PAYA extends its thanks to the Naoero Chamber of Commerce, workshop facilitators, Sports Department and all the young people who participated.
Tubwa kor ouwak to everyone who contributed to making this initiative possible.
We look forward to supporting more opportunities for leadership, entrepreneurship and community development through PAYA Naoero.
Of Naoero, for Naoero, connected to the Pacific.
