The Pacific-Australia Youth Association (PAYA), in collaboration with the United States Department of State Young Pacific Leaders Program (YPLP) Alumni – Phillie Julai Marai (CEO, PAYA), will host a special Freedom 250 Alumni event exploring one of the most relevant challenges facing young people today: our relationship with social media.

Titled “Connected but Disconnected: Understanding Social Media Addiction and Reclaiming Our Attention,” we encourage young people and community members to attend for an important conversation about the impact of social media on our attention, wellbeing, relationships and everyday lives.

The session will be held at the American Space at the National Library & Archives in Waigani, it will provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on how constant connectivity can sometimes leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and those around us.

This event will form part of the Freedom 250 celebrations, commemorating 250 years of American independence, reflecting the shared values of youth engagement, learning, connection and community.

PAYA is proud to collaborate on this initiative and support meaningful conversations that encourage young Pacific Islanders to think critically about the role technology and social media play in their lives.
