Malik Oedin
Malik Oedin is a Pacific Islander from New Caledonia. He is committed to the preservation of the biodiversity of his archipelago, particularly the harvested species. He currently works for the North Province and is in charge of a concerted and integrated management program for hunted flying foxes, taking into account all the ecological, social and cultural issues associated with these species.
In parallel to his work, he is a volunteer and president of the local association Gardiens Des Iles which works for the preservation, restoration and study of the environment in New Caledonia, particularly in the marine environment. He is also a founding member of the Pacific Bat Conservation Network and has directed other environmental and social associations.
In his spare time, he is also a young researcher in the field of applied ecology with a PhD in population biology and ecology, specialising in the study of bats, hunting and invasive species. Malik was a delegate for New Caledonia at the Pacific-Australia Youth Association Inc.’s Inaugural Youth Leadership Summit in November 2022.
