How to Apply

Nomination Process

Prospective applicants for the Youth Leadership Summit must be an Ordinary Member of PAYA Inc. and nominated by an organisation or individual who can attest to their contributions in various domains, such as family, school, university, community, or other areas (hereinafter referred to as "referee"). Referees should preferably be either an organisation (e.g., school, university, employer, NGO) or a respected leader (e.g., elder, teacher, mentor, supervisor/manager, pastor).

Financial Support

When completing the nomination form, the referee will be asked if they are willing to wholly or partially financially support the delegate for the costs of attending the Summit, including registration, flights, insurance, and other incidental costs. This question will not be asked for referees nominating youth in Nauru as the Summit is provided at no cost to local delegates.  If the referee agrees to fund the applicant wholly or partially, PAYA will invoice the referee and hold them financially responsible for meeting all costs for the delegate. Details of any partial support arrangements must be provided. If the referee does not agree to fund the applicant, PAYA will ensure that the delegate is aware of the need to cover their own costs to attend the Summit. Please note that PAYA is unable to provide funding for delegates. However, we will assist applicants by providing letters of recommendation and a YLS information pack to support them when approaching potential referees.

Application Submission

Applicants will only receive the application form for the Summit after a valid nomination has been received, regardless of whether the referee agreed to fund the applicant or not. After being nominated by their referee, applicants must submit an application to attend the Summit.

Gather all required documents and information, including personal details, educational background, and professional experience. Reflect on your motivations for attending the Summit, your goals, and how your participation will benefit your community. Complete the online application form, ensuring that all required fields are filled out accurately, and upload any necessary supporting documents. Double-check your application before submitting to ensure all information is correct and complete.

Selection and Payment

The application will be assessed by the Summit Applications Sub-Committee of the Association after the closing date of 14th July 2024. We will aim to provide an outcome to your application within 10 business days of this date. If successful, international delegates or their referee will be invoiced for their registration fee and payment required within two weeks of acceptance date. You will also be requested to provide a copy of your flights and travel insurance once accepted to attend.
