PAYA Recognised at the U.S. Consulate General Sydney A250 Brisbane Event

Relationships are built through shared values, meaningful conversations, and a commitment to creating opportunities for future generations. On 30 June 2026, PAYA was honoured to be part of the America 250 (A250) Networking Event in Brisbane, celebrating the enduring friendship between the United States, Australia, and the Pacific.
Representing PAYA, Walai Tongia (PAYA Secretary) attended the event, joining government representatives, community leaders, and partner organisations to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of American Independence. The evening celebrated not only a significant historical milestone but also the partnerships that continue to strengthen collaboration across the region.
One of the evening's most memorable moments was PAYA receiving a prestigious award from U.S. Consul General Jeremy Cornforth in recognition of the Association's contribution to cultural diplomacy and its role in fostering enduring relationships between the United States, Australia, and Pacific Island nations. The recognition reflects PAYA's ongoing commitment to empowering young people through leadership development, cross-cultural exchange, and meaningful regional engagement.

Over the years, PAYA has connected hundreds of young Pacific leaders through youth summits, leadership workshops, webinars, and international collaborations. The award acknowledged these achievements, including the Association's recent engagement with Youth Pacific Leaders in American Samoa and Guam, highlighting the growing impact of Pacific youth working together across borders.
Throughout the evening, speakers reflected on the importance of investing in people-to-people connections and building partnerships across education, culture, trade, sport, innovation, and regional security. These themes closely mirror PAYA's vision of creating opportunities for young people to connect, lead, and contribute to stronger, more resilient communities throughout the Pacific.
While the award was presented to PAYA, it represents the collective efforts of every volunteer, member, supporter, and partner who has contributed to the Association's journey. Every summit organised, every webinar delivered, every partnership formed, and every young leader empowered has played a role in achieving this recognition.
