About the Workshop

The Empowering Quality Teaching program is a two-week initiative designed to equip teachers in East New Britain with inclusive education tools and life skills pedagogy through Integral Human Development (IHD). This collaboration between PAYA and Romen Grammar School responds to the need for more inclusive and resource-supported classrooms, particularly for learners with special needs and diverse abilities.

The program is split into two parts:

Week 1 – Theoretical Training (June 23–28)
Held at Romen Grammar School Hall, this week will cover:

  • Life Skills for Children

  • Inclusive Teaching Strategies

  • Child Growth & Development

  • Disability Awareness in Education

  • Creating Safe & Supportive Classrooms

Week 2 – Practical Application (July 1–4)
Delivered across selected early childhood and elementary schools in the Bitapaka District. Activities include:

  • Teaching practice with mentorship

  • Classroom observations and feedback

  • Distribution of essential learning materials

  • Group reflection sessions

🎉 A mini house graduation ceremony will close the program, with certificates awarded to participants who complete both weeks.

Why This Matters

Many teachers begin their careers without formal training in inclusive or life-skills-based education. As a result:

  • Students with disabilities or slower learning progress are left behind

  • Stigma prevents full classroom inclusion

  • Teachers lack practical tools and support
This workshop seeks to change that by building capacity, shifting mindsets, and providing resources.

Long-Term Impact

This initiative is built on sustainable outcomes:

  • Upskilling & Ongoing Support for teachers

  • Community engagement to foster ownership

  • Resources for classrooms that enable lasting change

  • Strengthened school-community relationships

  • Monitoring & accountability for continued impact
